Unreal II: The Awakening is the sequel to 1998's genre-defining first person shooter Unreal. Set in the same universe, but following a brand new story and with a new cast of characters, Unreal II: The Awakening catapults the player 300 years into our future to the border of mankind's expansion into space. As John Dalton, an ex-Marine assigned to patrol the edge of human space you're a marshal for the Terran Colonial Authority the 24th Century's equivalent of a Sheriff of the Old West. Your employer the Earth-based Civil Government is weak, a bit player in a political scene dominated by rival Corporate factions and the infamous Terran Military. You patrol your sector in the creaky but serviceable starship Atlantis; a Spirit class patrol vessel built fifty years ago and retrofitted for civil government service after the Military decommissioned her. You are accompanied by a support crew of three, Aida, Isaak and Ne'Ban. Unhappy with your lot Patrolling the ass-end of nowhere, your monotonous tour of duty is violently interrupted by a chilling distress signal, plunging you into a harsh combat situations against terrifying enemies. Violent turmoil among alien races and rival corporations has erupted on your watch. Thrust into a conflict that will determine the fate of the galaxy, you are humanity's only hope for salvation. |
