Full-time Jr or Senior Web Developer
(Updated Sept 26th, 2008)
Web-based international PC gaming community portal run by cool software company seeks equally-cool PHP developer.
Xfire ( http://www.xfire.com ), a division of MTV Digital (under Viacom Inc,) and based in Menlo Park CA 94025, is looking for another rockin’ full-time web developer to help us maintain our lead in the gaming community-o-sphere.
Got skills? What we NEED:
- PHP – you know it, we use it, nuff said.
- HTML and CSS – Firefox2/3, IE6/7/8 and all their quirks, in particular.
What we’d also LIKE (for bonus points), experience with or having:
- Strong debugging skills – be a problem-solver!
- MySQL – how did you think we store 12 MILLION users, in a spreadsheet?
- Perl – is for masochists. We're masochists. So?
- Javascript – gotta have those bells and whistles
- AJAX – now with rounded corners!
- PHP Source-level debuggers – any, your choice
- C++ - because sometimes you need a machine gun.
- Dreamweaver - okay not really, just kidding. NO DREAMWEAVER!
What we’re OFFERING:
- competitive salary based on experience
- Full-time W-2 position with all the benefits and job security a big corp can offer
- Casual startup-style smack-talking work environment
- Hard work, without over-working (not another Silicon Valley sweat shop, but fires do break out from time to time)
- Active encouragement for you to grow as a developer, expanding in time into technical areas which interest you (MySQL, Perl, AJAX, C++) in a high-load high-performance application environment
If you’re a:
- Junior developer, please have a relevant college degree or at least be an active student, PLUS be prepared to show proof of natural aptitude as a developer (side projects?)
- Intermediate-level developer, please have 1-4 years relevant professional experience, and snippets of previous code.
- Senior developer, please have 5+ years relevant professional experience, and at least one major project or product with which to impress us.
This is application-scale web development with full front- and back-ends for both user-facing and internal purposes, not just writing static pages. We’re looking for someone who can follow instructions, yet still ask pertinent questions and offer insightful solutions, and generally contribute to the collective wisdom and creative vision of the Xfire development team.
You.. yes, you, the person reading this right now.. could be a part of the future of the www.xfire.com gaming portal, turning page mockups into specifications and taking them through development and QA into public release and follow-up performance tuning. You could be working closely with designers, artists, testers, other programmers, and the team lead. You could be working with cutting-edge technology in the web sector (no, we can’t tell you what that is yet or, yes, we’d have to kill you.)
But none of that will happen if you don’t apply for the job...
